kool aid does work...very simple to do...i more or less followed the instructions at this link...
actually...i know for a fact that you can "follow them less" than "follow them more"...

AWESOME HOWARD!!!! KOOL Aid Looks great!!! I love the orange, looks just like the same shade on several of the old fences, its looks like an exact match for the fence on the Country house in "The Fair" set.
Will have to try!

Howard, I'm glad that the glue didn't dissolve the color, at least too much.

good afternoon...
here are the results...
the jury is still out 'til i do a test with different colors next to each other to see if there is any color bleed...
strawberry and cherry yield same color...it takes two packs of lemonade to really show a color...
all colors are softer than they appear in the photo...the bottom four are still a little moist...
forget grape...unless you like the color of mud...i may try grape again on some bleached coconut to see how it looks...
i'll probably use rit dye for the vast majority of coco i make...but had to try this dye method to see how it works on straw...
my very best regards...howard...

WOW they look Great!! Im a big fan of the mixed berry color!!
I made my first batch of brown last night, came out great! I used a mix of 2 different Brown Rit dyes.
Thanks for sharing your findings, Im going to check out the Kool aid isle next time Im at the store and see what their Blueberry does for a light blue color.
