Concerning the beads. The are indeed those Indian craft beads we use to use for making rings and such. All I have ever seen on the coralene house were red and green beads ( I believe these are called seed beads). Surgery tomorrow am - check in at 6 A.M. Tom

Good Thursday to Everybody!

Some more progress. I got a base built for the bead house, but....I might end up redoing it. :( There is a pic below, before it got messed up. I had something crazy happen. The sand I use I got from a pet shop about 5 years ago, and I hadn't built a house for about 4. So I taped up the hole I put in the bag with masking tape. Then when I opened it to work on this house, the tape residue had turned to a powder and mixed in with the sand. When I applied it to the base I noticed the sand had a yellowish tone to it. So I was a bit bummed, and shut the lights off and began to walk away and noticed that the whole base was GLOWING in the dark!! I'm guessing there was some sort of phosporus in the tape.

Then I moved on to the blue house to go onto the old base. It came out nicely with one exception, the blue paint I used dried about 5 shades darker than when I applied so I'm probably going to repaint it so it matches the one of Tom's a bit closer. It has my new fuzzy windows installed!!!

Cheers!
-Brian

brian...

my recommendation...don't panic about the color...i personally like it...remember that the colors you see today on vintage putz houses have had 40 to 60 years or more to "mellow", "age" and "fade"...by the way..."fuzzies" look good!...

Thanks Paul, Maria, and Howard! I'm calling the blue one my Smurf house. :) I decided to use the glow in the dark base. Its pretty neat, when the lights turn out. I tried to get a pic but it was too dark. I still need to put the green spots on the base. I ordered some new green coconut from Pete, so I should be able to finish it up pretty soon. I also had my dad send me some seed beads, but he only had red in what looks to be the proper size. I think they are #12s. So I still need to make it out to a bead shop to get the green ones. I'm having so much fun with these two, I'm trying to decide if I want to build another new one next or do some fix ups!
