Putz Villlage 2018: Moonstruck

Hey guys.....

This year's village scene is lit by an LED nightlight of the moon, complete with its topographic details. The effect is mesmerizing in person, but almost impossible to capture with a camera. After many failed attempts, I found a guy who got the shots, then had to do a little computer wizardry to keep the moon from looking like a bare light bulb. As a result, the houses are not especially crisp.... but the big picture is there.
Next year, I may be consulting with Elon Musk....

Outstanding village display as always! Hope you’ll post a few more closeups.
I must ask where you got the LED moon? I need to get on for my brother. He is a retired NASA guy and astronomy nut.

OKPat, this is a great village I love how you have everything set up with the different levels, what did you use?

You have a beautiful selection of houses, originals, reproductions or both!

I have a love the moon, a wonderful touch.

Howard,The 3-D moon light nightlight is available on Amazon... Walmart has it too. Tried to cut and paste the link.... not my forte at all.
It's very cool, and you can change the color of the moon from yellow-ish to blue/white. I used a small piece of velcro to attach it to the
back of my starlight triptych.

Lynn, the display is in two sections. The back section is basically a staircase made of 1" pine for the frame, and white pegboard for the treads and risers. The pegboard allows me to pass the low voltage wires from the houses down below, where they are gathered up and connected to a transformer.
The front flat section of the display is a large piece of pegboard, up on a 1" pine frame. All of the pegboard is "upholstered" in cotton batting,
stapled to the pine frame, then I add some Woodland Scenics snow as needed.

I gave Barb some written directions on the wiring...maybe she can post them.

Beautiful set up OK Pat! I am always amazed by the collections I see on this forum... Where do you all get these from?! lol..

The only one I see that I personally own is the BIG church right in the middle. I sure miss my little collection. They're all locked up in a storage unit 10,000 miles away. Alas, there's always next year!

Stunning village!!! The moon is very appropriate this year as there will actually be a full moon on Christmas. Doesn't happen often. The next one will be in
19 years!! A piece of trivia for today!!

Hello Pat. I love, love, love your 2018 putz scene. I studied it for 2 hours. How fun. Can I ask you a big favor please... Could you measure the bases of the 2 houses up front and center? Width, depth and thickness please. I want to figure out for sure if they are Giants or Semi-Giants? Thank you. If you wish you can email me... oehmen@sbcglobal.net

Hi Pete...

Both bases measure the same: 8-7/16" wide x 5-1/2" deep by 1-1/4" high (thick).
What category would you put them in?

Hello Pat. These are definitely GIANTS, the biggest of their kind. I think you sent me pictures of the one on the right? I added it to the Collector's Guide. Perhaps you could do the same on the one on the left? That would be way cool. Thank you, Pete
