2022 PROJECT 11 -- TIMBER FRAME DOLLY STYLE REPRODUCTION

Greetings to all...

A timber frame "Dolly" inspired house has always been on my project list...it's a small version of the vintage original...the base is 4" x 5"...overall height is 4 1/2"...I would have already published the patterns, graphics for the walls, windows, roof and chimney plus a picture of the finished house if my life had not been rudely interrupted by a strain of COVID...hopefully i'll get the project finished soon...

Here is a picture of my prototype in raw cardboard with black and white graphic plus images of pieces in the works...stay tuned for updates...

UPDATE...TIMBER FRAME HOUSE...PROJECT 11 FOR 2022...

Here's a picture of the vintage inspiration house...my version will have a red body and chimney...the roof will be a green shingle look with some mica flake snow...I copied the open gate detail from another Dolly House...

About the base in the original topic picture above...it's a piece of foam a little less than 5/8" with a layer of poster board laminated on the top and bottom..

Making progress on covering the thin cardboard body with the printed graphics wrap...I'll be posting the PDFs for the graphic wrap plus patterns soon...stay tuned...

Really nice Howard! How did you make that printed pattern? Was the design done on your PC, or hand colored then printed? Amazing work!

How?...strictly "old school" (for the most part)...

I scaled and drew it out with a ruler, pencil and circle templates...then transferred the drawing to the back side of red scrapbook paper, cut out the areas did't want, glued it down (good side up with no pencil lines showing) on white paper and had laser copied...the exposed bricks were cut from adhesive back address labels with cuticle scissors...

I did scan the cut out pieces and patterns so I could post the graphics and patterns as PDFs on the forum...Microsoft Paint was used to draw the roof shingle patterns, then copied and pasted to make an image that is larger than the cardboard roof...

It works for me...

Forgot to mention…the shutters are also pieces of adhesive back labels…the tree shapes on the shutters were drawn with a red ball point pen…

Sometimes, "Old School" is the BEST way to do it my friend! I really want to give this a try myself now! Thanks kindly for your how-to on this project. I have tried to figure these Dolly Printies for a while and this by far is the most authentic way I have ever seen it done. It takes a Master like yourself to do it...
