Little Boy figure and MORE.....

Post by BrianB »

Good afternoon,

Thought I'd share my latest putz'n project. I'm working on a rather large putz house right now, and it has two little figures. The first one is this little boy.

I looked at previous posts here on the forum, both Tom and Howard have made outstanding little figures to accompany their houses. They made molds from sculpts or original figures they own and then cast some copies out of rock hard water putty. I have made previous figures sculpted from polymer clay, but I noticed this little boy character is on a lot of houses I may want to repro in the future so I thought I take their cue and try it out so I don't have to resculpt every time.

First I sculpted the boy from the polymer clay and baked him. You can see in the second pic he scortched in the toaster oven. Then I sprayed him with nonstick cooking spray along with the clay and made a mold pressing two different color polymer clays together.

Unfortunatly the mold was destroyed after the first casting, but Howard has sent me detailed pics of his method which I will try next time around.

However I did get one good casting and painted him up(see below) like the original on the house Im currently working on. I noticed from a close up pic the boy's hat and coat were dusted with mica powder. So I tried to stay true to form, and he came out pretty shiny! :D

Very nice job!! I love the little figures, sometimes that is what attracts me to the older houses and churches. I have seen a little girl holding a doll that is very sweet.

Thank you so much, Howard, Lynn, and Paul!!

I hope to reproduce several more, I really like the houses with the firgures as well, they add a whole new level of charm for sure. I think the mica powder really made this guy have the vintage look. I'm really looking fwd to getting the house done to attach this guy to it!
I haven't tried to put wire in the putty when it was hardening like the originals, which I may start doing, Im worried over time the glue may fail. Im going to have to cross my fingers with this guy.

Awsome close up!! Thanks for sharing!! I would love to see a pic of the house she is on! It looks like a full coco. I may have to try and do a sculpt of her! Love the ear muffs and dolly!

Hi Brian, I can’t remember where I got this picture from, but check out Antoinette’s 2004 Christmas mantel. It is not the same figure or house, but similar.
