This house was one I took way too much time to make.

Kind of a pain to make.

Hard to see in the photo, but it has some handmade shingle pattern for the roof.

Was trying to make A Karl Fey house I Really liked.

I think it is beautiful. Can you elaborate a little bit about what was a pain to make? You can't tell by looking that you struggled with anything. It looks great. Lucy

very well done!...nice and crisp details...the roof shingles really show up well...the window mullions are perfect....what clear gloss finish did you use?...you mentioned it was a "pain"...but the finished product doesn't show anything like that to me...

About this build.

I used the Karl Fey house as a model.

Getting the dimensions right is a bit of a trial and error process.
I am using a CAD program to design them first. Makes revisions, if I got a dimension wrong, quicker to change.

I used the known size of the door and worked out from there.

The roof was hand scribed with an old blunt straight blade screwdriver to get the line between the shingles.
Then I sprayed it with some pebble finish paint to give it some of the texture as seen in Karl's house.
I paint the blue over it.

The mullions are Avery labels, printed on then cut out.

As for the clear coat, I used Rustoeum gloss clear. Only because I had a half used can in my shop.
There maybe better coatings out there.

I'm getting a feel for the dimensions on karl's houses. There is another of his lakkies I may try next.

Working on a few Christmas gifts right now.

We sure miss Karl, don't we? I am fortunate to have purchased several houses from him over the years he was making them available, including at least one (that I can remember) custom house he made for me. I also got a set of individual cottages like would have been in a motor court in the 1930s. Maybe we will have opportunity again in future to buy some of his awesome houses.

But you are not having to wait! Your lakkie looks lovely. I hope the effort required goes down substantially with each additional one you make. Keep up the good work and please continue to share pics.
