Greetings to all…
Here’s a project I started this week…I’ve used this basic pattern many, many times…go here to see the first version of this house…
http://littleglitterhouses.com/paul/sma ... houses.htm
Other than changing the door and window locations on the front, this remake is really nothing special…except for the finish…this one is covered with “faux birch bark”…and it’s really fun and easy to make…here’s a link to the instructions…
http://kitschdesigns.com/post/Making-an ... -Bark.aspx
I did make a couple of adjustments when I made my second sheet…I used gray cereal box cardboard and not brown paper…I also sprinkled on some dirt from the yard while the glue was wet…finally…when the paper was completely dry…I lightly sanded the wrinkles and ridges with fine grit sandpaper for more highlights…
The base and fence need primer, paint and glitter…there will be an area of snow on the roof…and I’ll probably add a blush of glitter to selected areas of the faux birch paper and on the window mullions…
My very best regards…Howard…

Very nice Howard! Love the "woodsy" effect... What material did you use by the way for that wonderful textured roof top sir?

Re: "Faux Birch Bark" finish cottage...
the roof is ordinary, natural color burlap glued to cardboard...after it is thoroughly dry, i trim the roof to size...but i cut so that the burlap is on the "bias"...the weave in the burlap run at a 45-degree angle to the edges of the cardboard...it stops a lot of unraveling this way...it works for me...

Re: "Faux Birch Bark" finish cottage...
Howard, your birch bark looks better than the bark in the article.
I won't tell her if you don't.
Re: "Faux Birch Bark" finish cottage...
I love that house, the roof, the walls and the fence. Using dirt from the yard - that's great.
Re: "Faux Birch Bark" finish cottage...
That birch bark finish is really neat. I like the windows also.

This is a great little cottage. I love the birch, looking at it all done it reminded me of a birdhouse I saw made out of birch.
