I made this ornament last year using Lynn's pattern, but I'm not overly happy with the coating. I used diamond dust for the stable and silver glitter for the trees. The trees have tarnished to a nice gun metal color but I much prefer the authentic look of the fine glitter. I think I'll try another one with fine glitter. I also used the scrap from Blumchen.

Laurie I really like the colors you picked out and how the glitter tarnished. It's lots of fun to see the different variations from one patten.

Some years ago--in a local drug store no less not known for carrying name-brand anything as far as craft supplies went--suddenly stocked their shelf with little jars of glitter--no labels---only one was silver, I liked the price, brought it home and promptly lost it in the closet that is my theoretical "craft supply" storage--I found it a year later and it had tarnished to a gorgeous gun-metal. I hope to use it in the coming year....

All that said, I love the simplicity of this little house.

I was wondering if anyone knew what all the figures were found on these ornaments.\

So far I've seen:
  • Santa w/ deer and sleigh.
  • Woman w/ deer
  • Deer
  • Santa w/ sack and walking staff.
Are there any more?

Not that I know of Steve those are the only ones I have ever seen. I have seen a box set and that only had these four. I have seen variations of the different colors of gltter used.

So my cupcake topper showed up today.

I placed one on a house I threw together.
The coating does not look vintage at all.
need to work on that.

But the cupcake topper is real close to the original.
Inexpensive too.

Steve, the old one probably glistened a lot more when it was new, so the brighter finish of your new one doesn't keep it from being a good tribute. I can't believe how close you got on that cake topper. - Paul

I am impressed in how the new toppers match the old ones found on the houses.

Can anyone explain to me what the coating they used is.

It seems to be a sand/glitter mix. But the glitter has tarnished over time.

Also it seems the added color on the edges is a watered down paint.

Can anyone set me straight on this.

I'd like to match my repros as close as I can.

Steve
