Amsterdam House

Post by Lucy »

This is my latest house - the Amsterdam house. It's based on drawings I've seen from the canal houses in Amsterdam. It was really easy to do. I cut out the facade separately from the rest of the house and glued it on. The paint once again is mixed with sand for texture. This is another one of my homemade trees.

Thank you, Maria. I was thinking of putting 2-3 together on one base for that very reason. Each would have a slightly different facade.

Here is my favorite canal house drawing by Maud and Miska Petersham in "Tales Told in Holland".

Very nice Amsterdam house Lucy. The light blue is pretty. Have you seen the huge collection of little Delft houses that are given away on plane flights? My husband has a small collection of them, and most are modeled after real canal houses. There would be nearly limitless inspiration there.

I have seen some of those Delft houses on Pinterest. That was part of the inspiration. I think I am going to make several variations of this house including pairing up some of the houses in a row. I am working on my second one now. It is very similar, just changed the facade a little bit and the door is a little more intricate. I'll post it when I get done. Lucy

Wow! Very nice Lucy. Nice windows as well. Did you flock them somehow?

Will,
The windows are a die cut from Elizabeth Craft Designs Holiday house (http://www.elizabethcraftdesigns.com/pr ... -house-918). I didn't have any gold paper so I painted 110# card stock with gold paint and then used the die cut. It makes really nice windows. Most of my windows are done this way. Sometimes I put the frame on the outside of the house and sometimes on the inside. Lucy

Here is the second Amsterdam house. I modified the front a little bit and used corrugated cardboard for the roof.

Very nice. I like the corrugated roof and the detail on the top of the facade. Nice fence too.
