Stone-textured houses

I made 2 houses using a craft stencil to mimic stone. Both of them will be decorated later as Halloween houses when I do an October fundraiser.

I hope you are having a good spring. The weather is incredible here today.

Was 78 degs on Monday here in Vermont.

Definitely not normal for this time of year.

outstanding houses!...i know i'll be looking for the "halloween" treatment you give them!...

will you please post the details with us regarding the stencils...if you've post previously...please refresh my memory...

source?...how to use?...what you used to plaster over the stencils?...you know, the basic info...

i have a project i want to build...and the stone texture is exactly how i want the walls to look!!!...

Lucy - the stone texture you have created is very cool and realistic! I like the blue and yellow colors too! The base looks like real wood - is it?

I used a stencil from an online scrapbooking store called the FunkieJunkie. It's the least expensive place I could find this stencil by Tim Holtz called "Stone". There is another very similar one that I also bought called "Slate". Here is the link to the website:

There is also a mini-version which would probably look better but I have trouble matching up stencils with texture paste without creating ugly seams.

There are a number of texture pastes available, but I took a picture of the Ranger brand I used next to Snow-Tex so you could see how it compares. Mostly it is denser than Snow-Tex.

John asked if the base was wood. No, just painted cardboard. I primed it with gesso, then a wash of raw umber. I also stamped the flat part of the base with a stamp called Papillon just for decor.

I really like this stencil. I learned from the Bluestone Creek house that I needed to paint it differently for the mortar to be more prominent. I painted each stone on the rusted roof house individually with a diluted raw umber and 2 shades of gray. I also painted the house with a very light gray before I stenciled with the texture paste and painted the stones.
