An interesting "candy box house" project...

Post by Howard »

Good morning to all…

Recently, Lynn sent me pictures of a “candy box house” she saw on an auction site…we both thought it was a piece that needed to be built, have patterns drawn for and shared on the forum…

We’ll be posting details about the project over the next several weeks…but for now…the picture and the patterns will tell the story…

Stay tuned…

I like the little side extension - that is very interesting. I also like that it is skewed. I've never done that before.

You called it a candy box house, but I guess it isn't the kind that you can pick up and put a treat inside?

I look forward to seeing how you make the fluffy roof. I really like that.

Thank you for sharing this great house, Howard and Lynn.

Lucy...

about the name "candy box"...that's a good point...I believe that was the name and description in the online auction site description...

I didn't save any pix of the back side or the bottom of the original house to see if it was truly in the "candy box" category...

greetings to all...

here are a couple of construction pictures...i'm going to use the roof without the icicle edge points on the side room...

in the photo that shows the back, you can see the balsa wood strips i used to reinforce and brace the side room...

i'll probably use a textured sand finish under the final finish coat of craft paint...

followed by random swirls and blushes of glitter and snow tex...

like the original, my version will be a "cotton topper"...i'll let Lynn fill you in on the details of the material she found for this...

right now, the house is in the shop receiving several coats of white primer...

my very best regards...

howard...

Thanks for the in-progress photos. Dummy that I am, I'd have put those tabs on the inner roof area inside instead of outside! Can't wait to see the finished product.

The side room is interesting. Could not tell from the Ebay picture that it was a facade, and not a full 4 sided room.

I like your fence. :-)

yes!...i really, really like the fence, too!...;)

i believe there were many houses that had those small, faux side rooms...but this is the first one i've copied and built...

note...Brian confirmed that there are other versions of this house (and a church) that have front wall side rooms...

i'll probably not use a paste-on window like the original had...but use an acetate one and put a piece of red foil behind it...

This is a very interesting house with the skewed design. I have not seen that before. I love seeing your in progress pics and am sure the finished house will be beautiful!

Hi everyone!

I used rolled cotton for the roof top.

I purchased mine at CVS but I'm sure you can get it at any local drug store. The CVS brand is called "CVS Health Sterile Rolled Cotton. I'll send a picture tonight. :)
