Better Trees for the Tree House

Post by Lucy »

I figured out a way to make some spooky trees that is relatively easy and inexpensive. Basically, it's pieces of wire wrapped with brown packing paper, painted, then all wrapped together. I put some strips of brown paper on the outside to hold the pieces together.

I love it. That is a way I always thought would work well for trees and now you have shown that it works.

I kept trying to think of a way to make trees and found a bunch on pinterest that were made with lots of wire - LOTS of wire. I didn't really want to buy or cut that much wire so I decided to make them the same way only with paper twisted around the wire to give it more body. They aren't perfect, but I'm not really trying to make perfect trees - just a suggestion of a spooky bare-branched tree.

I finished this house - the latest in the Houses for Habitat Halloween series. I call it "House Guardians" because it looks like the trees are protecting the house. It was a fun house to build. I will be making more trees this way. I think I can make them a little less rustic-looking.

I think I have about 14 houses ready. A friend came over yesterday and took some better (non-iPhone) photos so I can make a portfolio and find a place to sell the houses in October.

These are great. I'm sure you'll have no problem selling as many as you can make!

Lynn,
You know one reason I make Halloween houses is because they can be kind of wonky. Glue blobs and uneven windows don't matter as much. Someone asked me if Halloween is my favorite holiday - no, not really. But it has provided a lot of inspiration for my little houses.

David,
Those trees required a crow to oversee everything. I'm glad you like that detail.

Lucy...

you're right about those trees made with lots and lots of twisted wire!...i made a few years ago...they seemed to take forever...

your method looks just right with all your haunted halloween houses...they're haunted in a good way though!...
