Little glitter house version of Antoinette's "Gate House"...

Post by Howard »

Good afternoon...

I've always looked at Antoinette's Christmas mantels for inspiration...there's so much to see and read...here the link...

http://antoinettestockenberg.com/xmas.htm

I saw an interesting little vintage house on the far left on her 2014 mantel...i believe this house has also made other appearances in different years...Antoinette once dubbed it as the "Gate House"...(see the first photo)...

My "Gate House" version will not be an exact copy of her vintage original...(see the other photos)...here's an overview of the basis dimensions...3 1/4" x 4 3/4" x 3/4" thick raised base...4 1/4" tall including the base...3/4" high fence...1" tall posts...

I couldn't tell for sure if the original house had "skewed" walls rather than "square" ones...so I went with "skewed"...the approximately 12-degree "skew" out of square makes for an interesting shape...but cutting and folding the roof pieces did take several attempts...in the last photo you can see the two foundation pieces that will be glued to the base to keep the "skewed" shape...

Later this week I'll post a PDF with the patterns for the major pieces...more photos will also follow...not sure of the colors i'll use just yet...

My very best regards...Howard...

Nice so far Howard! I'm sure a "skewed" house is a little more challenging? Haven't tried it myself yet.

Cheers!

Great reproduction. I am looking forward to the flatties to accompany it. They look challenging.

Good morning to all...

The PDF with the patterns for the major pieces of the Gate House is available below...

The picture below is of the hand cut card stock window mullions and the red acetate window on their mounting panels...the mullions will be painted when i decide on the colors for the house...

My very best regards...Howard...

Can't wait to see the finished project. Looking good my friend!
Question: Do you glue your red acetate on, or do you just leave them taped? Thanks for your reply
In advance sir!

It's just held on via tape...but...the card stock mullion is glued over the acetate to form a sandwich of card stock mullion, acetate and cardboard...this sandwich is glued inside the house with the mullion facing out...

good evening to all...

here's the finished "gate house" and the mailman "flattie"...i'll let the picture tell the story except to say this...

as usual i always find things i wish i'd done differently...i should have painted the window mullions gold and not red...it's hard to see in this illuminated picture but when the lights are not on the windows look like blobs of red with not much contrast between the red mullions and the red acetate windows... :(

my very best regards...howard...

The house and mail man go great together. He looks happy to be delivering Christmas cards!
