Christmas Light Putz

A reader has found a little putz that seems to be a glorified Christmas tree light. The "base" is nominal, the lamp is fastened to the top, and there are factory-punched ventilation slots in the back. Have any of you seen one of these? Can you tell us anything about it?

I've seen these before somewhere, I think perhaps on papatedsplace. But what really intrigued me is the stamping "NIPPON REGISTRATION". I don't think I have ever seen anything like that. This would really be a question posed directly to Ted I think on his thread.
